March 15th Meeting

Monday, March 14th, 2011

We have a special meeting planned for Tuesday, March 15.

Robert Vickery, our guest speaker, will be giving us a short workshop on how to write an effective letter to the editor. Mr. Vickery was the NewsTribune’s Vice-President of advertising for a number of years. He was a member of the panel of editors who routinely chose which letters would be published. He has advised on several successful local campaigns, including his own race for County Board in a largely Democrat area of Peru last fall. He knows what does, and does not, work in regard to Media and Marketing, and he will be sharing that information with us at the meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and be held in the Steinbeck Room at Fitzgerald’s Piano Lounge. The address is 432 S. Main Street in Princeton.

Elections

We have much to celebrate with Adam Kinzinger as our new Congressman!  Adam, along with Randy Hultgren (14th) and Bobby Schilling (17th), will join Congressman Aaron Schock in Washington DC.   In fact, of the 19 Congressional seats in Illinois, Republicans are now in the majority, winning 11 of those seats.

Unfortunately, things did not fare as well in Springfield.  While we won both the Treasurer’s and Comptroller’s offices (Congratulations to Dan Rutherford and Judy Barr Topinka!), we did not win back the Governorship.  However, the Senate ratio changed to 35 Democrats and 24 Republicans, removing the super majority that the Democrats held for 2 years.  In the Illinois State House, Republicans picked up 6 seats, changing the ratio to 64 Democrats and 54 Republicans.

Ladies, we have more work to do here in Illinois in the next 2 years!

We need to say Congratulations to Representative Moffitt and Senator Risinger!  We are so glad to have them represent us in Springfield. And…Congratulations to Nina Urbanowski, Kami Hieronymus, and Laura Rose!  Nina and Laura, we are proud to call each of you one of our own!

Decorate for the Holidays

The “Decorate for the Holidays” Raffle was held on Saturday, November 6.  The prize, which includes an in-home consultation provided by Flowers by Julia and the winner’s choice of silk designs and holiday items to decorate for the season, was won by Tammy Griffin of Malden.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this fundraiser a success!

”Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.”

-Ronald Reagan

Coming up….

We will be holding our own elections in January for the offices of President and Secretary.   Please consider serving in one of these capacities.  A nomination committee will be formed at the November meeting.
